More than 20 members of the Eighth Air Force competed in the 2nd Annual Red River Dragon Boat Festival dragon boat races Sept. 11 in downtown Shreveport, La.

"Dragon boat racing is one of the fastest growing water sports today and this is an exciting new way we can enjoy our Red River," said John Coutret, the event chairperson.

The festival provided fun for the whole family and featured the races with 41-foot-long dragon boats that hold 21 team members paddling to the finish line.

The races drew 27 teams from around the Ark-La-Tex, and improvement over last year's 12 teams. The Eighth Air Force has provided a team for both events, finishing second last year and fourth this year.
