Kirtland Air Force Base has recently started The Tiger Council, a new homegrown initiative that focuses on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) to help counter any negative social and cultural issues by promoting awareness, education, and action.

“Currently there are over 25k personnel that work on base and the 377th only has two staff members that have Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as their primary role,” said Col. Jason Gale. “The Tiger Council is meant to support and help them in order to further the goals of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on base.”

Being recently formed, The Tiger Council is focusing initially on finding its identity with the eventual aim of being able to resolve important DEIA issues, host events, and increase outreach. The Tiger Council is open for anyone with access to the installation to include military, civilians, contractors, spouses, family members or anyone who is passionate about making Kirtland a more inviting and inclusive place to be.

“The Tiger Council is different from other councils because it is inclusive of both civilian and military members,” said Cynthia Dominguez-Trujillo, Special Assistant to the commander on Diversity and Affirmative Employment. “All who are interested are encouraged to join.”

The Tiger Council welcomes any new members. The next meeting will be held on May 24th at 3 P.M. in the 377th Air Base Wing Headquarters Building.

“I want this to be fun,” said Col. Gale. “I want people to be excited about contributing to the Tiger Council and feeling a sense of pride that they helped to make the base a more vibrant, inclusive, and respectful place to work.”
