Memorial marks lives lost 70 years ago at RAF Alconbury

RAF ALCONBURY, United Kingdom – Two of the B-17 Flying Fortresses that were damaged by an explosion at RAF Alconbury on May 27, 1943, sit on the flightline. Nineteen United States Army Air Force 95th Bombardment Group Airmen were killed and 21 others were injured when a 500-pound bomb detonated on the flightline.
