WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Air Force Global Strike Command has selected Whiteman Air Force Base as their nominee for the 2025 Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence.
The Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence recognizes the outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.
“Our selection is a testament to our hard work, dedication, and commitment to making Whiteman Air Force Base an exemplary model of installation excellence,” said Col. Keith Butler, 509th Bomb Wing commander.
Installations will compete on how well they achieve the Department of Defense’s objectives in several areas of installation management, including mission support, energy conservation, quality of life and unit morale, environmental stewardship, real property management, safety, health and security, communications, and public relations.
“We leveraged our team’s talents through intentional and deliberate Airmen development across the installation while embracing innovation and taking calculated risks,” said Col. Illya Thomas, 509th Mission Support Group commander. “We accelerated modernization efforts, integrating cutting-edge systems and upgrading critical capabilities to build readiness. Our team’s commitment to excellence led to AFGSC’s nomination for the CINC Award, a testament to our dedication in advancing the command's mission.”
Excellent installations enable better mission performance and enhance the working and living conditions for military members, DOD civilians, and their families. The award recognizes the best installations from each military service and the Defense Logistics Agency. Each winning installation will receive a commemorative trophy, flag, and a congratulatory letter from the President. The winners will be announced in 2025.
