World War II Veteran receives French Legion of Honor
Friends and family congratulate John Carpenter, a World War II veteran, right, after being presented the French Legion of Honor for his service during World War II on Barksdale Air Force Base, La., July 1, 2014. Carpenter participated in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge as a logistics Soldier. Carpenter, 29 during D-Day, was much older than the soldiers around him.
