Veterans, Airmen celebrate 75 years of 8 AF heritage
Retired Tech. Sgt. John Carpenter, Eighth Air Force World War II veteran, raises his hand during a roll call that took place as part of the Mighty Eighth Heritage 8K event at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., April 26, 2017. During combat, aviators did not always have radios to check in with the service members, and a roll call would be taken at the end of the day to determine who did not make it back from a mission. During the heritage event, the roll call symbolized who did return back from the operations they participated in. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Erin Trower)
